FACT: Black people didn't become obsessively into DBZ until the late 00s/early 2010s

It's crazy how hard black people - specifically African Americans - have appropriated dragon ball z. I remember during the original Western run in the late '90s and early '00s when I watched it as a kid. All groups loved it equally; black people didn't obsess over it any more than asians, whites, and hispanics in the West.

It wasn't until the Twitter era (late 2000s to early 2010s) that black people became disproportionately obsessed with the show. I remember thinking at the time... "did these cats even watch the show back a decade ago?" I even remember the white "wigga" types wearing long socks and slides who copied black people started obsessing over the show too.

Now people associate the show with black people as if it's a black thing. Which it wasn't at all during it's OG run.

Just thought I'd clear this up given the creator's death.

No one did such thing as the reason for the later increase in popularity could be due to the dvds being more readily available in stores and Amazon during the 2000s. And by then the English version would have been more internationalized.

What’s wrong about them loving the show?

Doesnt make sense even If you try to put a racist spin on it.

you wouldn't know because the internet wasn't as popular or widely spread back then. I remember the 90s and DBZ, and having dial up internet, the most I had was like 1 second repeating gifs of DBZ

Sure, but same could be same about a ton of young white kids. DBZ somehow got a massive revival (possibly due to Super and/or streaming availability). Their generation as a whole has appropriated all sorts of cult classic shows. My niece and nephew obsessed over Avatar, Naruto, etc.

Tbh I know a bunch of nerdy black guys that have liked DBZ probably about as long as I have (mid 90s).
