how come so much of America is racist but the NFL is so hugely popular?

A massive proportion of the NFL is African American. Why does it remain to be so popular when a lot of Middle aged America appear to be massively racist especially towards African Americans?

Also do American sports league such as the NBA/NFL really just represent a form of modern day slavery?

the players all belong to the team, they do get paid massive amounts but they also sacrifice a lot and the true winners are the owners and execs watching from afar making billions, who are usually white.

players are constantly evaluated and ranked by older white men making them also like Mandingos of the past or fighters.

it just seems like the modern day structure of leagues like the NFL/NBA represent this.

is what way racist white people say to themselves to justify why they continue to watch and enjoy a sport full of ethnic men despite hating everything about them.

or is America not nearly as racist as this forum has us believe

Because I imagine much of America is not actually racist, but simply prejudiced. As in they have preconceived opinions about certain groups as a whole based on stereotypes but are otherwise openminded towards individuals belonging to said groups.

It seems like most racism takes the form of "as long as it's not in my backyard". Nobody cares about race until it directly affects them. I loved watching Michael Jordan play but I wouldn't want him living across the street from me.

Yeah real slavery making about 1000X what the average American makes to play a basketball game a few times per week.

Give me a break with these over thoughts- they aren't forced to play, but when you are offered millions of dollars to do so they are going to play. What the man above them makes is irrelevant.

This forum in no way represents real life and i have observed it since 2005.
In real life, except for super high crime ridden communities, most people get along fine and are civil because they don't express *vile comments out loud* or their would be severe consequences by society at large.
It just will not be tolerated by normal people.

As for sports, athletes take pride in achieving their goals and making it to the pro level, so no one looks at it as slavery or servitude... they look at it as a high achiever job.
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Yeah real slavery to get paid multiple millions of dollars per year to play a basketball game 3 times per week. Travel around the country and have girls simp over you. It would be everything against their best interest not to play. But " oh no , a richer white man owns the team " pffffftttt
