If this is the kind of game you enjoy, it's fuking 100/100, just pure Ogre Battle umami goodness. It's been out since the 7th? I've put in 50 hours, which I never normally do (I generally game no more than an hour a day tops). I can spend a good hour between battles just fuking around with and tinkering with my squads. I love the barracks where you can test them against each other to see their strengths and weaknesses.
However, in the thread I made announcing it awhile back, clearly this is not the kind of game for everyone. Not everyone wants to think hard, tinker or kind of mathematically create these perfected squads and program their behaviors to optimize them.
Someone like that it's 5 or 6 out of 10, maybe they'll appreciate the art or music, but not the meat of the game - which is the insane gameplay.
Demo is free, so anyone possibly interested, just check it out. You get 5 hours of playtime for free. You'll know by the end if you like it or not.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Coming from a guy who has Ogre Battle 64 in his top 10 of all time, I would (10 hours in) give this game a 8/10.
As JUSA pointed out, if you like these games, the style and the customization of squads is deep, and allows for myriad options of entering battle.
From there it really has a more Rock/Paper/Scissors feel to it than say Ogre Battle did. In Ogre Battle you could basically Brute Force your way through the game and while that may be cheese, it IMO allowed for more flexibility in your group design and deployment, whereas Unicorn Overlord (generally) requires more finesse and strategy which is a double edged sword for me personally.
The biggest reason that I don't know if I can knock this up too many more points unless the story blows me away is just the combat animation style. They made the sprites for the world map, so why on earth couldn't they make the combat sprites? Instead it's that weird hybrid that is just jarring to me. Idk, it's hard to explain, I just personally don't like the combat and cutscene animation & art style.
