Finally got fiber internet! Reps till I'm out!

One of the downsides of living in the sticks is you don't have many choices for internet, and what you do get is very slow.

I had a 10mbps MAX speed for years. Downloading a game was an all day affair. Playing online meant kicking everyone off wifi (and it still wasn't the best)

Now? Just tested at 490mbps.

Have a 1 Gbps fiber connection and can confirm it is glorious. Once you get past 200+ it is hard to notice the difference. The only place you really see the full speed utilized is on steam.

Congrats OP. As a fellow country inhabitant, I know those feels. When I moved back home we rented while we built our house. The rental had internet from one of the companies where you put the little antenna on the side of the house and we actually had some decent speed options. The house we built was in an area with cable and our speed was much faster, but more importantly, much more stable.

with fiber you have full upload speeds that are just as fast as download speeds, unlike cable.

You could upload a realtime 8k HDR 120hz feed of your butthole for that guy stalking you.

Some parts of London didn't have decent internet for a long time. It's all down to local government. The higher the population density, the more cost effective laying physical cable becomes, but the council then gets involved.

The amount that they charge the cable company can more than offset the cost benefits of high population density. So even though there are all these customers just sat there crying out for the service, it is simply too expensive for the provider.

Misc of course.

But really the only reason I have 1Gbps is because I live downtown where fiber is dirt cheap and 1 Gbps is where their speeds start. I can't complain.

I don't know if you've downloaded a game on steam yet, but your mind is going to be blown coming from your previous connection.
