Long Covid: It’s Even Faker Than You Think

The term “long Covid” should be dropped from use, because Covid has no more aftereffects than the flu or other mild respiratory illnesses, according to a major new study from Australia released yesterday.

The study showed that only 3 percent of people who had Covid had “moderate-to-severe” aftereffects a year later - numerically fewer than those infected with influenza or other mild respiratory diseases.

Researchers surveyed 5,112 Australians who had been infected with Covid, flu, or other respiratory illnesses. The study adds to similar work suggesting that - except for the tiny handful of people who require ventilators or intensive hospital care - nearly everyone who gets Covid recovers completely from it within months.

The study’s full findings will be presented at the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in late April.

“We believe it is time to stop using terms like ‘long COVID,’” the study’s lead author, Dr. John Gerrard, said in a press release. “They wrongly imply there is something unique and exceptional about longer term symptoms associated with this virus. This terminology can cause unnecessary fear, and in some cases, hypervigilance to longer symptoms that can impede recovery.”


Dr. Gerrard is currently the Chief Health Officer of Queensland, an Australian state of 5 million people on the country’s northeast coast. He was the first physician in Queensland to treat a Covid patient.

The maximum federal disability benefit changes each year because of inflation. The maximum monthly SSDI benefit is $3,822 in 2024. The average benefit is $1,483 per month.

People piss their pants when I tell them I had "long flu". Got it a few years ago, took me about six months to get my cardio and strength back to where it was before.

If anything it tells you how little knowledge people know of even the most common diseases.

When you know people with heart damage and 1 that still can't taste food 100%, what fancy name should we call it?
If not long covid, long term damage from covid?
How do you enjoy food, if it tastes like nothing 2 years later?

Even "regular" colds and flus can do both. And there's even more diseases that can cause loss of taste.

These aren't unique symptoms.

Sure. But the incidence and prevalence rates are markedly different as are some of the other signs (cognitive deficits, mitochondrial mutation, reduced grey matter).

In all my years on Earth, i never met anyone that got *heart damage* from "it is just a cold" or lost taste for 2/3 years.
Maybe the east coast is different than other parts of the country.

No, sadly, but there would be nothing to report if there were zero examples.
Most normal humans from Earth acknowledge/admit that this thing hit people differently and some have longer term problems from it.
The others are just ai, or not from Earth, or live in a shoe.
