Could you win a financial debate against Dave Ramsay?

Would you go head-to-ass with the baby steps?

I have a Norwood 0 hairline and I could KO Dave in under 20 seconds. So yeah, I'd say I'd win.

I doubt anyone really can go head to head with Dave. 10 million people have gone through financial peace university. I doubt all 10 million people followed through with it completely. But still... Its basically a foolproof way to live financially free without financial strain or stress. And guarantees you retire a millionaire.

Its boomer grade finance. However it still works in 2024 and I know some early/mid 20s people that have utilized his steps and they are all doing extremely well. You won't get rich quick. You won't be a young millionaire yoloing it out. But you'll live comfortable. Debt free. Financial stress free. And retire extremely comfortable.

I'll be retired at 46. Actually just 9 years away now.I had a few small missteps but I'm freaking glad I took that route from teenager onward.

Based on this post, I’d say you would lose to a debate against Dave. First, can you post the source of his second bankruptcy?

Dave talks about the lessons he learned from his earlier mistakes. He became a millionaire in his 20s, then the banks pulled the plug on him and forced him to pay all of his notes early. He talks about why they did it, and how to avoid getting in to the same situation. That was the only bankruptcy I Know of him having.

The lessons he teaches are the same he learned from going bankrupt and how to avoid it. That sounds like wisdom to me. Every wealthy business owner that built himself from the ground up has a story of failure. And becoming a millionaire twice? Most of y’all have never become a millionaire at all.

I’m not the biggest fan of Dave Ramsey, but if you’re going to put down a millionaire for bad decisions and advice, you better bring from receipts.

So common sense is stupid? This is quite the contradiction.

A lot of young people need to hear this advice. It’s his target audience, along with middle aged folks who keep making bad decisions.

What do you think of the rest of his advice? The practical advice?

This reminds me of the arguments again Jordan Peterson too. “Clean your room”. lol So stupid! But then you realize that incompetent and/or irresponsible people tend to have really messy and chaotic homes. The target audience are those who are trying to get their life straightened out, which consists of a majority of the youth, but also includes drug users and addicts of other things, and those who have personality disorders.

If you continue reading what these individuals have to offer, you pick up morsels of information you might not know. This is something that ideologues tend to do though. Find something wrong/bad with what someone wrote, then throwing everything else they say out the window.

Nah cuz he's too stubborn. He'll never be persuaded that credit card points can be nothing but a financial bonus so long as you accrue $0 interest your whole life (like me). He'll never be persuaded that Avalanche method > Snowball method. There's a couple other hills he'll die on too that I disagree with.

The crazy thing about Dave Ramsey's financial plan is its basic common sense stuff. It only sound bizarre/unrealistic because everyone has been brainwashed by advertising/marketing campaigns.

Dave basically researched how people build wealth and how they live financially free. And compiled it into an easy to understand format that even retarded people can follow. And everyone criticizes him/his financial plan.

Its basically extremely easy to live debt free. Without a financial care in the world. And to retire a millionaire. Yet for some reason when you tell people how easy it is they get pissed at you and refuse to follow the plan. Its actually laughable.

He picks no credit cards and snowball method for psychological reasons.

For the snowball method its because psychologically people get more motivated/inspired when they pay off the little debts first. It seems more manageable to them. They are more likely to adhere to the program long term and win. Its not pure mathematics with Dave's program. He factors in people's adherence and likelihood of slipping.

For credit cards its also psychological. He explains this numerous times. Buying something with physical cash is a lot different then just swiping a card. You are more likely to buy extra or over spend with a card. Especially when there are incentives. My girl works in upscale retail and they are partnered with a credit card company to push credit apps. Basically they've found people spend 33% more in store with a credit card. They frequently offer 25% discounts to store cards and occasionally a 50% discount to store card users. You might think offering people 50% off of everything in store would result in financial losses.... They make **** tons of money. People basically think the deals are so good they spend a ton of extra money thinking they are 'saving' money.

Also, a lot of places charge a 3-5% convenience fee on credit cards which basically negates the incentives.

I follow Dave's financial plan pretty closely. But I do use a credit card. I'm financially set and accept that its not the most efficient way to budget. It is convenient and secure however. Which is why I use cards. I didn't start using CC until my mid 20s however.

i follow Mr Micawber's financial principles from David Copperfield by Charles Dickens

'Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness.

Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds nought and six, result misery.'

have followed this basic principle all my life, can retire anytime , have paid off my house years ago, raised a family , travelled the world, zero debt, pension and savings all sorted

best of all can do my FT job in 5-10 hours per week

basic principle live within your means and don't buy stupid chit
