Massive hack live during apex legends major

Unreal, forced to cancel the entire finals event tonight.

Was watching live and could not believe what I saw. Don't think there's been anything like it in pro gaming to my knowledge

There has been a hacker named destroyer2009 tormenting pro players by stream sniping and what not for months.

Tonight during algs finals he was able to hack into people's games via the server somehow and give them hacks. All of a sudden pros have aimbot and wall hacks mid match. Insane. Obviously panic ensued and the entire event ended up canceled for tonight. It was during game 3 or 4 so alot had already been played for the night. No idea how they will handle this.

A short video showing pov of the two players who were hacked.

As the Misery Loves Company crew complains gaming is dead, the reality is Multiplayer gaming is in serious trouble due to cheating. It's sad, hopefully they can figure it out.

Yeah but luckily for the players when he hacked the sever he put a message about himself hacking it in the global chat

If he didn't there's a very high chance some people who make good livings as pro players could have had their careers ruined over cheat accusations from this.

I dunno chit about programming but some people I follow seem to be optimistic that AI can really help the problem with cheaters. And I don't see why not, hacking has always existed an probably always will but these unauthorized devices are what has really gotten out of hand lately, and I don't see why AI wouldn't be able to pick up on M/K movement patterns on controller, lack of recoil, single shot guns in full auto, etc.

I think the opposite, ai will be used to enable cheats even worse. Maybe it can be deployed in some anti cheat sense, but most people are almost certain it will be used to make hacks and that will be it's main purpose in the fps space.

Lol at the multiplayer is dead comments, even with cheaters it's still the most lucrative aspect of gaming. The most profitable games are free multiplayer games lmao. Idk how you could say multiplayer is dead with any sense of rationalism. It's the most popular aspect of video games.

the most popular games on every single platform are multiplayer games.

Multiplayer is only dead if youre an old bitch with no friends.

I dont know if multiplayer is dead ... I'm not some sweaty autist, so honestly in my experience when I play games like Fortgay, Battlefield etc I dont notice cheaters and hackers at all. As a person who only has a casual interest in MP I have a fun time on all these games.

That said, the co-op multiplayer pve area is amazing. We have so many games with co-op or fun survival games where you team up with friends to go on wild wacky adventures together. DRG, Helldivers 2, Forest , Lethal Company.

The reason you don't see hackers is because they really don't exist in casual play for most fps games.

For instance, I play apex legends. I could play 10k hours of pub matches and never see a hacker.

The moment I enter ranked mode, and climb up to diamond rank, those chances increase exponentially. If I were to hit predator (top 500) i would see cheaters constantly.

In most games the average player could play thousands of hours without seeing a cheater. The cheaters are generally paying for cheat services and using them to climb in ranked and/or stream snipe pro players and streamers.

I haven't it seen a cheater in apex in a few years personally, but ask anyone who's top 500 how often they see a cheater. It's daily almost.

So all, the people in here acting like it's ruinging mp are really just over reacting and most likely don't play mp games at all, otherwise they'd probably chime in with the same story as you, that they barely see them.

Certain games are exceptions and can be littered with cheaters all around tho. Escape from tarkov is probably the worst offender. Pubg is another one.

I mean I, haven't played rocket league seriously in years but when I was grand champ I never saw any hackers. Idk what kind hacks rocket league would even have.

I did play against pro players constantly and playing against a kronovi 3 stack of pro players felt like playing against cheaters

The skill gap in the game left me sooooooo far behind. People are doing insane tech in that game now.

Would be horrible if you are right. I could see AI making things worse on PC but I think with consoles being so locked down it'll hopefully be a different story. Gaming on console with crossplay off could be the new Master Race.

I wish I could remember where I was reading it but it was something about using ai to develop cheats that would run based on visual information on the screen and make it so you're pc wouldn't even need to use a program, but rather like a raspberry pi type deal where you could plug an external device running the ai into a USB on the monitor, and have the cheat run itself completely outside of your system, therefor being undetectable by any anti cheat. Like imagine if the cronus plugged into your television rather than your console, and your console software is just oblivious to any 3rd party device.

Truthfully I may have butchered that information a little bit, I really wish I could find the article I had read, it was a while back tho.

But with a cheat like that, it could potentially work on a console as long as it's using a screen with its own os/USB

Theres alot of people worried that ai could really destroy online integrity for competitive gaming.

It's really just a matter of time. Gaming is so popular now that cheating in video games has become its own industry. Many of these cheats are subscription based services that have people working around the clock updating the cheat engines constantly.

It's so bad games have been only able to do ban waves every few months, if they did ban waves too often it would make it too easy for cheat makers to identify the changes made in the game to combat their cheats, and then update their cheats accordingly.

That's why consoles gaming is king. If you have a gaming PC stick to single player games srs

also the fact that free games are free and getting banned is a slap on the wrist.. make new account on a free game and you are back and HWID bans mean nothing with every cheat providing built in HWID spoofers

.. this is mainly COD's issue with warzone. an issue with apex too but on a smaller scale due to it not being "as popular"

$20/month for hacks and you get all the skins/camos/etc unlocked for free is a steal for anyone playing a free game. one skin pack costs $20. this is a no brainer.

if hackers lost $70 each time they got caught it will be much much less cheating across the board.

also console cheats do exist, its a smaller scale, but if they were to ever make it so competitive is only on consoles to "stop cheating" you will see the doors open full blown. console players need to keep quiet and enjoy their turning off cross play options. just look the other way and don't give dev's ideas

This hacker has access to put himself into console lobbies, wouldn't matter. This dude can put himself into your lobby with a literal army of bots to chase you down. He has absurd levels of access

For anyone who is interested in killing some time on the subject of hacking, this guy who's a popular streamer and ex cybersecurity guy for blizzard and hacker. He weighed in on the subject, slightly interesting g to hear about it from his pov.
