WA state no longer requires bar exam to be attorney




Just In: The State of Washington has just announced that the bar exam will no longer be required for an attorney to become licensed in the state of Washington. According to the state Supreme Court the exam hurts minorities.

Next logical step - the judge has to rule in favor of the person being represented by a minority…otherwise it would harm minorities.



But honestly, they’re about at the point where they won’t need lawyers there because the judges will just people go anyway.



Edit to add- these are the real racist policies. They’re basically saying black people are too dumb to pass the bar exam in significant numbers.

The court approved new ways for law students to become licensed attorneys in the Evergreen State.

One method is an apprenticeship program for law school graduates who work under an attorney for six months, then submit a portfolio for review. The other option is to complete 12 credits of skills coursework, 500 hours of hands-on legal work prior to graduation, and submit a portfolio for the Washington State Bar to review.

Oregon in November adopted an apprenticeship pathway for law school graduates, joining Wisconsin and New Hampshire, which have for years offered law graduates a way to become licensed without taking the bar exam.

High courts in California, Minnesota and Utah are currently considering proposals to license attorneys without the bar exam, while Nevada and South Dakota are among the states developing such proposals.

A timeline has yet to be set for the change. So far, Washington is only the second state to officially approve alternatives to the bar, following Oregon, which is set to implement the change in May, according to the Administrative Office of the Courts.
