You can hear this a million times but it might not soak in until you have lived it...
Money does not buy happiness. I know this has been discussed over and over again.....and growing up I heard this many times. But I always just thought it was just some saying that you put on a t shirt and never believed it.
Looking back, I with I would have been able to absorb this more.....but coming from where I came from.....I was 100% in belief this was the way.
Im just placing this out there to anyone who might be more open minded than I was when I was younger.
Now I am not saying to stop going out and hustling and to stop trying to do XYZ to acquire money. I am not saying that at all. But what is important is to have an understanding standing beyond money as to why you might be spending time doing something. Why beyond the money.
Looking back, the things that make me the happiness are things you cannot buy. I will say the money allows me the time and freedom to do those things......so there is a correlation but they are not directly related.

Im just placing this out there to anyone who might be more open minded than I was when I was younger.

For myself, money gives me the opportunity to buy time to do things that make me "happy." So not directly relevant but definitely related.
*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

There are tons of factors that go into this but I agree overall. My income has doubled over the past 5 years but so has the amount of work stress that has come with it. If I could make the same money as I do now but the stress level of 5 years ago I'd be much happier.

I've been poor and I'm well off now. Happiness hasn't changed much. The only thing I've noticed is having more money makes me more stressed because them I'm worried about it. Money makes things easier but not necessarily better.

Whats ironic is most people would be happier making 55k a year running their own small business, owning a gym, etc. than making 3x that in a corporate grind. People make a lot of money in certain jobs they either hate or are indifferent to and then cope with expensive lifestyles that do nothing to make them happier. A working car and a house in a safe area are pre-requisits to happiness. A German engineered car or 2 extra bedrooms and designer furniture in your house 100% arent.
Happiness is derived from multiple things IMO but you need:
- health
- purpose / goals
- relationships (both sexual, friendships, community)
Its a simple equation. At a certain income, and it's lower than miscers probably think, more $$$ literally just means bigger numbers on a computer screen. Outside of something like financial independence and the freedom to pursue your own goals (which is very big milestone ill admit) it does nothing else to happiness

Yeh we adapt way too quickly to both positive and negative changes in circumstance. Money can provide boosts of short-term happiness, then you adapt and return to your baseline level.

Money doesn't buy happiness necessarily...but not having decent amounts of money is painful and a sad feeling. So everything stays in balance you see.

Happiness is just an emotion. Money can't buy it. But it can buy the things that brings you happiness.
-You have a family. Why don't you run a little experiment and get rid of the money for awhile. Lets see how happy you are after a few days when your wife and kids are hungry and want to eat but you just can't afford to get food yet.
-Or what happens in winter time when you can't afford the power bill or good winter clothing. You can be together and 'happy' with your little family. But lets see how happy you are when you are watching them shiver and freeze and the best you can do is tell them you're trying.
-Or how you feel when your kid's want decent clothes to wear to school but they'll just have to suffice with clothing that don't fit properly and shoes with holes in them.
Etc.
Its easy to sit from a place of comfort and say that money does not buy happiness. But money buys everything that can bring you happiness. Its all about perspective. If you are in some hunter gatherer culture and are able to support your family/keep them fed and healthy. Then you have riches/wealth in another aspect that's not 'money'. But in the modern world. You most likely need money to be happy. Especially if people depend on you.

I could give two fk’s about happiness , it’s just an emotion. I want money in order to have shelter and stay fed. Homeless , freezing , and getting your fingers amputated from frostbite is not an emotion, chits getting real .
