His family owns a large business in Ecuador. They do very well and are probably in the top 0.1% of Ecuador and considered rich by USA standards. They have dual citizenship. Anyways Ecuador has pretty much collapsed. Government is basically the cartels and is trying to seize private property to "redistribute wealth" aka "give to politicians". A band of criminal communists just held my brother in laws uncle hostage and was demanding ransom. Thankfully a whole crew of workers showed up because usually they amputate body parts to show the family and then kill the hostage.... But they ended up robbing everybody of their phones and wallets and left.


I was talking to a leftist about this. And they said "dont they live in a gated property with guards" and I said yeah they do, but they can't spend 100% of their life on the gated property. And then they legit asked why Ecuador hasn't banned guns. Which they did years ago... Only the communists have guns. I don't think USA is much further behind Ecuador unfortunately. It was a nice place and safe just 5 years ago. Americans would retire there and enjoy the low cost of living. The cartels lived deep in the amazon and didn't really affect people much, they just exported drugs from Columbia through the ports. Then the commies showed up and their society has completely collapsed. Feel bad for the people who can't afford to live in a gated property and hire armed guards. Theyve been fed to the wolves.
