Anyway, I have a male cat that wants to steal anything with calories in it. I don't think I could successefully keep something like a bird or rodent pet in the same household without him trying to go after them constantly.

Had a male cat when I was a kid that had no front claws, yet regularly took down chipmunks, gophers, other various small wildlife, and even birds. One time I saw him ready to pounce a bird in some trees, and he let me pick him up and give him a toss towards the bird, to which he landed in full sprint, then dove into the tree and grabbed it before it could get away. Again, that cat had now front claws and did all that chit for like 15 years. Dude would drag the dead bodies of his prey back home and present them to the family, srs
