Here's why US government debt isn't a big deal (yet)

The US government has $35tn in debt. But, it also has assets.

Look at all this land. How much do you think it's worth. Probably at least $35tn, right?

Interesting timing on this thread. The Office of the Inspector General is undertaking a project right now to come up with a value for all of the Federal lands. I met with them two weeks ago to discuss this. Right now they are primarly looking at surface estate but I would assume they look at subsurface mineral estate, which is around 700 mil acres, next.

The subsurface will be tricky though since you have to know what's down there to have an idea of how to appraise it.
