Is the Civil War movie pro-leftist?
I saw it yesterday. I thought it was effin' good and well worth watching for everyone.
The director intentionally avoids explaining the cause of the civil war and the motives of any of the factions involved. That is a good move IMO since you avoid your own political biases and just see what political polarization and breakdown of sensible discourse leads to.
There are leftists and right-wingers who think the government must be disbanded but they're not thinking through what this would really look like. The movie shows you it's horrific.
It stays neutral by design but I think there are pretty clear parallels in some places. The President seems inspired by Trump and is in his tyrannical third term. It is set circa 2020, and there's only one president as of late that is anti-press, hinted at a third term, used violence agaisnt protestors etc.
The film doesn't explain the origins of the war, but they do seem to be inspired by 2020 and I can see it as interpreted as a counterfactual history where 2020 did lead to civil war. It does intend to be political neutral, but did you feel it had a leftist bias ?

When they kill the President, I liked how there was no real sense of victory because there was no hint at a better future. The country was destroyed. Everyone loses in civil war.

It's not pro or anti anything ffs. It simply tells a story - from the perspective of journalists recording it for history.
