I've always been curious as to the economics of this. I mean, pro anglers these days have 30-50k worth of electronics and that doesn't include the cost of the boat itself + fuel.

$80k tournament win after taxes won't even cover the cost of what it takes to get started.

Sponsors. And yes it’s very expensive sport. Winning $80k is a lot better than 0. Most serious recreational bass fisherman have all the same electronics and costs as pros and make 0 off their fishing. Most pros are independently wealthy, have rich parents, or a lucrative social media

How is it that us normal people go fishing and we spend all day and maybe catch one of we are lucky. The rest of the time its just sitting there.

Thes pro guys go out and can not only catch fish anytime they wish but just certain fish. How the hell are they doing it unless there is some scam going on.

Of course I am suspicious of just about everything and this is certainly one of those things.

When you're on the water every day you get locked in to the patterns and it becomes a lot easier. When I was living in the South Pacific I was fishing for a couple of hours almost every day after work and was pretty consistently catching fish. I might get skunked for a couple of days in a row, but then I would adjust and be back on the fish for several days. The routine actually got not really boring, but just less interesting after a while and I started exploring newer areas.
