Thinking of getting into IT

Get one of the beginner COMPTIA certs like Sec+/Net+/A+ then apply for a Help Desk/Tech Support gig. Just put BS in your resume about how you've built computers before then work your way up (dfs). Every IT position I've ever had taught me everything I needed to know. Now I'm a Linux/Solaris Admin

Try different areas and see which one you like.

I've bounced around from NOC to Network engineer, Server admin, Exchange.

Found that i liked Vsphere admin/servers the best

Ok but what do you think is the best resource to study for those comptia certs for free? I heard of udemy and pluralsight but not sure if its worth the money and if theres free resources that are just as good.

I have CompTIA A+, and Network + as well as an unrelated bachelors degree and struggled for 7 months in 2023 trying to get even an entry-level IT job before ultimately giving up.

I'm not sure if it was the greater economy, the job market in my general area, something wrong with me, or something else totally.

but that aside, its definitely not as easy as "get a cert and make bank"

be prepared, like any field, to work your way up from the bottom. Hopefully that cert opens up the first door for you. It didnt for me.
