Lost my boy Boaz over the weekend :(
Saturday night my oldest boy passed away peacefully on my kitchen floor. He had just finished playing with my younger boy, walked away laid on the floor and he was gone just like that. I placed his body back in his crate because my plan was to bury him on my property. I have 3 other dogs. I thought it was important to keep him around for a short amount of time for them and I needed to prepare his plot.
I took all the dogs one by one to see Boaz resting peacefully in his crate…they all sat quietly just looking at him and sniffing around. If there such a thing as dog closure I think they knew he was gone. I buried him on the side of a willow tree out back (one I planted years ago,) and there's a nice bench to sit on next to his plot. I figured when my grandkids come they can sit on the bench, say hello and talk to him…maybe leave a little flower, etc…a quiet spot where they can spend time with him. I got a little engraved stone that I'm going to place on his plot so we always know where he is.
RIP my handsome beast…
I'm crushed and I miss him so much…

Sorry to hear this. He got a final romp with one of the boys and went to sleep.
That's as good as it gets. You did a good job providing that for him.

The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

Sorry for your loss.
When our first dog died, we let our second dog see him right before we put him in the ground. She slept out there by his grave every night for a week.
