When did people start hating others for having different political views?

I really don't remember this level of hatred before 2016/Trump.

I don't recall in 2012 where if you said you voted for Obama/Romney you were called names. Now a days, if you don't align perfectly with someone, they're gonna view you as a moron.

It was around 2016, all the chit hit the fan. Things quickly went from everyone being friendly and civil to random people getting super offended about everything. It started with females on social media for Hillary, then kinda snowballed from there.

Within like 9 months, there were a ton of females always playing victim. It really fuking sucked.

It caught my attention when Nancy Pelosi began going after President W. Bush. Other Democrats began following her lead. Some began calling it Bush derangement syndrome. It was a nonstop largely dishonest vilification attacks being made.

Politically it appeared to work though, vilifying a political often conservative opponent. So long as Democrats feel the vilification works politically it will continue.

Unfortunately for society I suspect the vilification has grown legs, and has moves onto other people and topics.

It used to be considered poor social etiquette but then the government and media decided to double down on justifying and enabling hatred so long as it was directed at the people they deemed appropriate. Now that such behavior has been normalized, it's been branching out and people don't think much about being openly nasty and hostile towards others. Not a good sign for where a society is headed.
