A little puzzle for you

You are given 2 ropes and a book of matches.

When lit at one end, each rope will take exactly 1 hour to burn completely. But, it is a special rope and different parts of the rope burn at different rates.

How, with only these 3 materials, can you time for exactly 45 minutes?
