Why is it so hard for people to break free from victimhood?

I get the appeal. I'm sure we've all played the victim at some point, but it's such a crazy, addictive handicap that people willingly put themselves through

. Doesn't matter your sex, race, religion, political ideology; someone can come along and say, "Is not your fault you feel unhappy and unfulfilled, it's theirs!"

And people happily eat it up. The guilt they felt from not living up to the expectations they placed upon themselves vanishes. It's not theirfault, it's the government, patriarchy, social media, blacks, whites, jews, democrats, republicans, etc..

It removes guilt. Guilt is a powerful force for change, but damn is it a horrible feeling. We feel it because we did something that betrayed our image of ourselves, or we didn't do what we expected of us. That feeling can inspire a change that makes that feeling go away, but it's hard because change always is.

Staying the same? Removing that guilt and putting that blame onto an outside force? Easy. Liberating, but stagnating.

Of course people are absolutely victims sometimes, but as a mindset, it's so poisonous. The mental form of junk food. Is that why it's so easy to fall into? So easy for some to use it to control others? Because we're lazy physically and mentally?

Is it hard to break away from that mentality for people because it's too hard, because they haven't been presented with the alternative, or something else?

Idk, just over here pondering.

Anyway, work day is done and I'm off tomorrow, so I'm gonna go home, drink, play Street Fighter, and watch Fallout.
I'm back, bitches!

I think you got it. They don't want to feel guilty or bad about themselves so it's just easier to blame other people for the problems you create.

It seems like people would come to this realization eventually, but some never do. I really wish I could probe people's minds just to see their version of introspection.

This is a good thread.

Not surprised to see it not get any traffic - the misc is in shambles these days.

OP poses a really good question, one that I often pondered myself. I only got as far as that most people are too lazy to get off their ass and actually improve their life.

It's very easy to blame someone else for their own failures.

You're not surrounded by losers on the misc though.

It's your catalyst to break free from said rut.

Myself personally, I'm a victim of my own charisma and charm... people follow me around begging for my attention, or they seek my approval, or they care so much about my acknowledgement of their existence.

So often times I've been the victim of muthaf/ckers holding me hostage in a dull conversation... or I've been the victim of muthaf/ckers throwing tantrums cause they felt I didn't give them enough attention.

I'm basically Calvin Candy from Django Unchained - a charming, charismatic intellectual who always attracts all the attention in any room....

I'm assuming he's either openly gay or in the closet... .No straight man believes in the male privilege bulls/h/t... Men have to fight, scratch and claw for everything in modern society. There are no social safety nets for men.

If your bro believes in male privilege then I'm pretty sure he's one of them downlow negroes that's doing gay sh/t on the weekends.

It takes trauma, I think.

A life changing event which jerks them loose from it.

He's done some questionable stuff for sure that we only found out through social media. Hanging out at gay clubs (mom brought it up to him and he said he just likes the dancing), painting his nails, He had created a separate instagram account where he was just posting selfies with those 'beautification' filters and making kiss faces...I think we as a family have kind of accepted that he might be at least bi

Good topic

If you are not responsible for the problem then you don't have to fix it.

Easy to blame a culture, or race, or sex for your own shortcomings. Fixing it takes work which takes time away from being online.

Copium mixed with the fact self accountability is generally unpleasant and for the stronger minded.

Also ease of access. At the end of the day, literally everything can be chalked down to unfortunate circumstances and bad luck. Literally everything with even mental gymnastics.

"It's not my fault, it's my genetics."

"It's not my fault, everything is predestined anyway. (Lack of free will, simulation theory, etc.)"

"It's not my fault, it's the economy and politicians."

I think OP has mostly covered it and some good additions.

I'd like to add that when you are down, it happens sometimes and sometimes it happens through poor choices and other times just bad luck but it can happen to anyone.

Anyway what I am trying to say is it feels like the majority of people are all too happy to kick someone when they are down, call them loser, point out how they failed, laugh and ridicule them for it and generally find ways to make themselves feel better than the person going through a low point.

Much less common is someone offering a genuine hand up, some compassion, some empathy. Some people offer to help, often their intentions are good but on a more sub-concious level it is about patronizing that person and enjoying the feeling of being better than that person. A genuine, authentic helping of another soul in need is rare. It could be anyone but mostly people delight in feeling superior to the person who is down. I have been guilty of this, I think most of us have.

I can see how that a) makes the person feel victimized and b) makes it harder for themselves to admit their failings. Everyone has an ego and if you attack a person's ego is no surprise that they develop coping strategies for that?

That we are all here, in this place, probably means we have more in common than we have in difference. Think about the energy you put out into the world because ultimately that is what will be reflected back.

I'm sorry wincel for how I made some of my points in other threads. I wanted to make them but I could have been more compassionate in how I did that. You were either going to take them or not, how I went about it was a reflection on me. I actually agree with a lot of what you say and I think you are interesting. I think you could reflect on how you go about making your points sometimes and why you do it that way and if you did you might find you get better outcomes.

All the best everyone. We all doing our best.

Everyone already dropped great answers ITT.

Just throwing in my two cents and will say Narcissisms can also play a part. Being a victim also means you can do no wrong. Perfect for narcs.

The answer is so simple!! Check it out.

Imagine you aren't taking responsibility for yourself, and then you discover of your own accord that you yourself must be the authority over yourself to hold yourself accountable to take responsibility for yourself.

Ok so...did you know not everyone is the homosapien-sapien? Some people are just homosapiens. They are the ape who knows, not the ape who knows that it knows.

What do I mean? Not everyone can think about thinking. They can't go layers deep.

This keeps them from something called introspection. To step outside of yourself and turn around and look at yourself to give yourself constructive criticisms for change.

Not everyone can do that.

And so they stay victims

In addition to all of the above, because it's profitable right now. We should all aspire to become a successful victim someday.

The great thing abount victimhood is, anybody can do it. It's an equal opportunity profession. In fact, if you're already a piece of sh!t, then you have a natural advantage in this burgeoning industry.

I got started just by repeating these conveniently provided victimization affirmations every day: believe, me too, and my life matters more than the next guy. At the local victims union they also recommend wearing a skirt.
