does the pursuit of "nice" things actually trap us?

people driving $80k cars that they worry about getting scratched/dinged/protecting with films, covers, sealants, keeping pristine, etc.

people carrying $1000 phones that they worry about losing or damaging, taking insurance out, etc.

expensive clothes/shoes they can't bare to get stained or ripped. expensive jewelry/watches, etc.

people with homes they turn into shrines they worship. tons of hours on the lawn, worrying about how to decorate, what furniture to buy, what appliances...making people take their shoes off as to not damage the flooring, etc.

can the nice things people pursue owning end up owning them?

inb4 miscers are $10kdayceos that just buy and buy more without caring
