Best Cheesesteaks in Philly?

Am headed to Philly for the first time in my life soon, lol.

I have had many cheesteaks, but never one there.

Colleagues have said that Angelo's Pizzeria is their favorite, some swear by John's Roast Pork, one guy swears by Nipotina.

If you had to PICK ONE cheesteak (I won't be there long), where would you go?

I was in Philly last weekend and went to D'Alessandros and it was pretty great. 8/10.

In general though, there's a cheesesteak place in my city that was in that same ballpark(maybe like a point lower). I feel like pretty much all cheesesteaks are pretty good, and you have to be mentally challenged to mess them up.

So people say, but you come to NYC and people fight over 'best slice in the city' more than One Bite Reviews do, srs.

D'alessandros looks serious too. Hrm.

Johns roast pork and Steve's prince of steaks

Have been to Steves once and it was great. Johns was someones recommendation but I've never had it. Went there once on way to Phillies game and it was closed.Apparently they only open when they feel like it or something lol

Jim's
There's a place in Conshy called Lenny's Italian Deli that makes phenomenal steaks.
Dellasandro's are good, but I always preferred Chubby's across the street.
Larry's on 54th behind St Joes has good steaks and have bellyfiller sized which are pretty big

Lol, it was funny, I was there last weekend and there was like a 10 minute line for Dalessandros and not a single person at Chubby's. I kinda wanted to try it just to see if there was much of a difference.

Thanks! Yeah not sure if I'll have the time to venture out, right now trying to shortlist the best.

To be honest, they seem quite small - I had one here in NYC that was rather small.

Am actually thinking of eating multiple in the same day.

Bet I could demolish 3 easily. Maybe 4?

Cheese Whiz or American and onion, that's it too right?

One thing.... Cheesesteaks are def bigger in Philly than in other places. I'd assume because there is so much competition in Philly they can't get away with giving you smaller portions in Biden's America. I ate one full one and a bag of chips and was honestly full for llke 5-6 hours.

It's not trendy, 98% of their customers are tourists and college kids.

Also the tits option is a Geno's steak but the hot sauce from Larry's

Hehe.

Am tempted to go with Dalessandro's, checked out a few reviews. Seems they chop it quite nice, and cheese:meat ratio is ideal. Might start there as soon as I get in, then see.

Am tempted to check out the fine dining scene also, but living in NYC I'm not sure that is worth it over local traditions.

My favorite is Gooey Louie's in Pennsport in South Philly. They stuff the most meat I've ever seen in a cheesesteak roll. It's in a hole in the wall place in a strip mall, but it's worth seeking out.

Wawa quality has gone to absolute chit the last several years and this is going back before covid. They don't bake the rolls in store anymore. It's a mess.

Also - it's not hard to find a sammich shop in Philly that is 24/7
