Las Vegas Sphere? Pretty sick dude. A Pink Floyd laser light show would be really cool there, too.

I saw the Dead 19 times in the early 90's. That was a lifetime ago.

I have not seen the reunion band though, I almost went last summer because it was supposed to be the last tour, but obviously it wasn't.

I thought the clips I saw from U2 there were pretty cool, but this is next level

I remember guys in (a very elite private) HS with me who were on acid then already srs and loved the music. I always thought it was fine - confused by Legz saying she hates it, heh.

Do you have the wrong poster? OP does very well in life, and I've never known him to be 'miserable'.

Or is this about his taking a dump on drunken divorcedcels who abandon their kids?

Well, they do have a grammy, induction into the rock & roll hall of fame, and music in the library of congress. Unless I’m mistaken, neither of us have those.

Taylor Swift is the most popular music artist on the planet right now, and has been immensely famous for 15+ years now. Do you consider her to be a legend in terms of raw musical talent because of it?

Yeah, I had friends who had grocery bags filled of Dead bootleg tapes. At the same time I had friends who were all about grunge. It was a great time for music. I went to about 90 concerts between 1990 and 1993.

I agree.

If I had been old enough to go to this:

It would have been epic. But I probably wouldn't be alive today. So there is that, lol.

Omg yasss.

Anyway, apart from the comparison of that group to Taylor Swift being like a comparison of apples to raw butter, I don’t really consider music inherently bad just because I don’t take to it. I just consider it “not for me” and leave it at that.

You're not understanding my point, at all.

My point was, you brought a band's popularity up, and the fact that we have not ourselves been successful as professional musicians, as a reason for why I should consider them to be good. So I responded to that by bringing up a music act - one you most likely don't care for that much - that absolutely dwarfs Grateful Dead's popularity. Yet you and many others don't automatically like Taylor Swift just because she is incredibly famous and we are told she is talented. Are you starting to get where I'm going with it, now?

I brought up nothing about popularity, just accolades. A better comparison could have been made if you chose to compare those, but you did not. Assuming you did, you’d have to compare specific accolades, while also considering the people involved (the Grateful Dead aren’t a pop singer, they are a band.) You’d have to consider the time period of that band, as well as the members involved during that period (a number of musicians were involved).

Then, if you really want to critique the technical aspects of music composition and execution between the two, your opinion would hold more merit if you held similar achievements to either of them, or at least a credible background in the field of music. I do not know if you do, but I do not, so I avoid generalized critiques. That was my point.

Grammies and getting into the library of congress are both popularity contests, bud.

Also, Grateful Dead has not won any grammies. They got nominated for one. Taylor Swift has won 14 and been nominated 52 times, hasn't been around long enough to make the library of congress. So that blows your entire arguement out of the water even looking at it strictly through those very specific lenses you brought up.
