Serious insomnia the last 3 weeks and feeling sleep deprived
Don't know what's wrong with me but every time night hits and I go try to lay down I cannot sleep. Feel another night of struggling coming on while simultaneously feeling exhausted enough to sleep.

How about you start by fisting yourself until you hit a coma.

I had this problem about a year ago brought on by severe work and personal stress. I would wake up in the middle of the night 2-3 times/night with chest pain and my heart 120+ bpm.
I would wake up every morning at 3-4 AM and couldn't fall back asleep.
I gained about 20 lbs and didn't have the energy to do anything except curl up in a ball when I got home from work.
I couldn't focus or read more than a paragraph or 2. I would have severe emotional control issues getting inexplicably upset over everything.
I think this episode permanently damaged my reputation at work because for about a year I felt literally mentally handicapped due the sleep deprivation. And people started treating me like I was dumb. Having multiple public blowups of anger did not help either.
Here's what solved the problem for me:
1) Went to a doctor and had them run a blood panel. They said my vitamin D was a little low so they prescribed a supplement
2) Magnesium supplements every night before bed. 100-200 mg of magnesium glycinate.
3) Reduced work stress. Stepped back from my job big time and stopped caring about work quality or being the perfect employee. Separated myself from a toxic group of people at work who were always putting me down/acting like I was dumb
4) Purchased a new mattress and pillow, and blackout curtains. I also seemed to sleep the best when I changed my sleeping environment (like to a hotel or other person's house) because I think I had begun to mentally associate my bedroom with frustration and wakeups rather than sleep.
It's been about a year and I am 95% ok now. But the recovery was very slow, I think I am still recovering somewhat today. I am not sure if I will ever be 100% again. I think the chronic sleep deprivation and stress took a part of me away forever because I still don't feel as quick as I used to be.

It also helped me to take time off work because I didn't fell like I "had to" fall asleep so I would be fresh for work the next day.
Taking the pressure off really helped me get back on track.

Melatonin 10mg 2h before bed.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.
