Basically the populations you select into have huge impacts on your day to day life and perceptions of reality
-choosing which neighborhood you live in will massively impact your perceptions of crime, wealth and how the economy overall is going
-this will in turn affect which schools your children go to, and how you view their academic performance relative to their peers
-the work environment you select into will deeply impact your views about people’s overall intelligence and the extent to which they adopt any given political or social ideologies
-how you select partners for dating and marriage will determine your views on gender relations


Why is this important?
-because if you find yourself living in clown world, it may just be because you yourself are driving the clown car
-when you meet someone with views you don’t agree with or cannot understand, it helps to remember their world view has been shaped through their selections. Look at the life they’ve selected, it will offer the explanatory variables



So when people tell me (for example) the economy is going to hell, I consciously try to remember thatfor that person, what they are saying is 100% correct



Selection bias is the bias introduced by the selection of individuals, groups, or data for analysis in such a way that proper randomization is not achieved

There are many different types of selection bias, such as survivorship bias, and the impacts can be significant
