Can humans defeat apex predators with melee weapons?

Could I take on a grizzly bear if I had a baseball bat or a wooden canoe oar? People seem to think I can’t use Muay Thai against a bear. I disagree but for the sake of argument, how much better are my chances with something like I mentioned. Or maybe a katana?
