Illegal Alien shoots 2 NYPD

Two cops were shot by a 19-year-old Venezuelan migrant early Monday when they tried to stop him as he was riding a motorized scooter — with one of the injured officers rendering aid to his partner since he was “more concerned” about him, according to police and sources.

The officers had tried to pull over the teen, identified as Bernardo Castro Mata, after spotting him driving the wrong way down a street at 89th Street and 23rd Avenue in Elmhurst at about 1:40 a.m., police said.

The suspect quickly ditched the moped and fled on foot for several blocks, according to cops.

During the pursuit, the teen allegedly pulled out an illegal gun and fired multiple rounds at the officers.

One of the officers, Christopher Abreu, 26, took a bullet to the leg while his partner, Richard Yarusso, also 26, was struck in the front of his bulletproof vest.

At least one of the officers returned fire and struck the alleged perp in the ankle.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the cop shot in his vest “was more concerned about his partner” and frantically worked to apply a tourniquet to Abreu’s leg to stem the bleeding, Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry said.

The teen has no criminal history in the Big Apple, but is a suspect in several “snatch and grab” robbery investigations in Queens — including one in which a woman was allegedly attacked and had her credit cards stolen, police said.

He has been living at the migrant shelter in the former Courtyard Marriott Hotel near LaGuardia Airport, NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban said.

Law enforcement sources told The Post he entered the US via Eagle Pass, Texas, in July of last year.

He was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens to undergo surgery.

The two injured cops were in “good spirits” after being treated at Elmhurst General Hospital, Caban said.

The cops were given a guard of honor and greeted by a huge round of applause as they were released from the hospital Monday morning.

“This could have gone a very different way,” the police commish told an early morning press conference.

Showing off the bullet hole in one of officer’s vest, Mayor Eric Adams praised the two cops.

“Because of this vest, a young police officer is going home,” Hizzoner said.

“A senseless act of violence. Total disregard for life,” he added as he addressed the incident.

“Our officers responded with a level of discipline, a level of focus, a level of professionalism. Today we thank God.”

The officers were both assigned to 115th Precinct’s public safety unit. Abreu has been on the job for five years, while his partner joined the NYPD ranks two and a half years ago.

They’ve caught some and put them back on the streets. Ended up raping and killing women and many cases teenage girls.

If anyone defends this itt that person should be shot!!!!

Out of hand we need a president who can fix this .

Expect to see more permanent job listings for cops, because no one will want to be one as it becomes more dangerous than it has ever been. I've already observed this, as well as upping their pay a bit (lol).

This guy is less likely to be charged with a felony in NY than trump was.

Let that sink in.
