Did Vern & Gordie almost get killed by the train because of the goocher they flipped?

They flipped that goocher in the junkyard. Just before Milo & Chopper came after their balls. Four tails they flipped. Jesus man, that's a goocher. Remember when Clint Bracken and those guys got wiped out on Weedhill in Durham? They came up with a goocher just before they got in the car and BANG! They all got totaled! Was Vern right to be concerned about the goocher? Is that the reason they were almost mowed down like Ray Brower shortly afterward?
