Buying a new construction, the builder is D R Horton.

My family is excited for me, but some of them have Googled quite a lot of bad reviews, news articles, YouTube videos, etc. talking about problems with the builders. Things like the roof being incomplete, families being unable to move in and having to live in hotels/air-bnbs for months, beer cans left in the home from the workers, piss bottles found behind the dry wall, etc.

They are a nation wide company who hires local contractors to do the building. As such, their quality is VERY volatile throughout the nation, let alone a given state, let alone a given county.

I plan to get a high caliber home inspector (3rd party, unrelated to the real estate agents) to review during the building process... pre-drywall, and pre-close.

Tomorrow I am also going to the neighborhood and knocking on random people's houses saying basically "Hi I'm Visel, I am planning to buy a house here, any thoughts on your home and the community so far?" But this community is super new, and as such, many problems won't manifest themselves for years most likely.

Any thoughts on D R Horton? Any thoughts on my strategy?
