Wtf is up with Pennsylvania and its people outside of Philadelphia?

I have had a decent experience interacting with people from Philadelphia but anywhere outside of that city, it is just.....weird.

Drove through PA and I swear just driving through that state was a messed up horror story. Like you get Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibes driving through the depressing highways.

Then most of the people I have met from PA who were not from Philly had this weird serial killer vibe to them.

Pittsburgh is the worst, you meet a lot of fake nice people who are nice at first and then immediately turn on others.

I don't mean to offend PA brahs, some of you are a tough bunch, but wtf is up with some of the people in your state?

I agree though, OP. Pennsylvania is a weird state. I actually really liked Pittsburgh, but the rural regions outside of it and the central part of the state are an absolute chithole. Almost like the land time forgot. The most depressing town I’ve ever visited in my entire life was Johnstown, PA which felt like the setting of a horror movie. Just a creepy vibe, everyone was walking around like a zombie. I’ve also seen more confederate flags in PA than any other state including the Deep South srs. They call it Pensyltucky for a reason.

Exactly this! I mean the place gave me the creeps. It gave me Silent Hill type of vibes tbh. The movie Silent Hill reminded me of most of PA. Then you find what famously happened at Penn St which doesn't involve football...

Pennsylvania is a weird ass state. Old towns and houses that feel like they're now filled with meth or something. Mountain/Hillbilly West Virginia vibes in a lot of places. Even the people in the cities aren't very sophisticated.

I would say Pennsylvania is the most "post apocalyptic" state in the US.

I'll take Pittsburgh over Philly, spent some time for work in both. Pittsburgh was a cool town to visit with the university embedded in the city and a bunch of fun bars, can't say the same about Philly.

Pittsburgh has done a helluva job revitalizing itself the last decade or two - the waterfront is beautiful.

Still plenty of great places in Philly though, we were just out bar hopping last weekend.

You can actually say exactly the same about Philly. You obviously didn't go to University City in Philly.

The drug zombie strip on Kensington Ave is like a 4 block area in a city of 2m people. But propaganda is what propaganda does, and it's very effective on people looking for a reason to trash a place because their cult leader doesn't like it.

Born there and visit family often from Washington DC, 2.5 hour drive.
Both cities are going through gentrification but DC has more money so it is faster while Philly is cleaning up section by section.
No one i know goes to Kensington, except the one in MD which is a nice area.
It really depends on perspective and where you drive; Philly looks better each time i visit.
The train station alone, the 30th st, is really improved.
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!
