Not watching but many homes way out in the Japanese countryside are cheap and the govt is actually paying Japanese people to move into them if they are empty

my dumb ass friend bought a 20k car at a 3rd rate used car lot in mint condition, the price was below what they give for trade in. He thought he got a steal. it never occurred to him why they are selling it below market rate? well when he went to get the title transferred he found out they fuked him and its a salvage title so he actually way over paid. now he has to probably pay a lawyer and that is going to be a massive time sink and cost even if he finally "wins" with them.

Its probably in the middle of no-where. With no industry. No internet. No bars, restaurants, retail shopping, grocery stores, etc. in the immediate vicinity.

this is an Akiya. Lots of abandoned houses in Japan due to aging population. When the parents die, the house is left to the children and because they are in more remote areas - too far from working city centres - they create a burden for the children and in some cases, shame. So they sit vacant until the children have time to deal with it, sometimes years. When they finally sell, they are dirt cheap and in some cases almost free. I've never bought one, don't know the legal requirements, immigration etc but it's legit and very common.

Plenty of places like that in the US. You can buy small places for $25K or so. Even in 2024. I keep an eye out because I've been looking for a rural place on a river or lake for hunting/boating.


If you're willing to live rural you can live very cheap in the US. No reason to go to Japan unless you just want to.

I looked up Akiya to Tokyo is 1 hour 8 mins.

pro tip- while they might have these for this price, you will pay a huge sum to get it up to standards to be considered an average home.

These people always make it look easy, like house flippers and such but anyone who has done it quickly realizes they left out some pretty important stuff along the way somehow,.
