I have lived 60 miles outside of both for a few years.
--- I liked Chicago better. --- Much easier to get around and felt safer to me.

Probably Chicago. I’ve been to Philly and it’s a cool city full of some of the toughest people you’ll ever encounter srs. I saw a fight break out at Tony Luke’s within 30 mins of arriving in the city lmao. Lots of Italians too. Plus the Northeast is the GOAT region IMO so I’d feel at home. But the city is really run down, like almost crumbling to the point of looking 3rd world in parts. Dangerous too. That chit would get old quick.
I haven’t yet visited Chicago, although I hear it’s the most underrated major city in America. Everyone I know who has visited says the crime issue is overblown AF and mostly relegated to the South Side. Peter Santenello said downtown Chicago was the cleanest big city downtown he’s ever walked through and there were no homeless people around. Awesome scenery there with the river and Lake Michigan. I understand it also has a really low cost of living and tons of great urban neighborhoods for a car free lifestyle.

I agree OP. Everyone I talk to who’s visited seems to like Chicago except for the winters.
