More and more people are getting into it since lab grown diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to natural diamonds. And at around 60-85% cheaper, it's no wonder why people have no problem going this route. Obviously, there's also the ethical stuff, blah, blah, blah. Any of you knowledgeable in this stuff?

I personally think it makes sense. The rich will still buy natural diamonds though. But for the general public, yeah, very sensible just to go with the lab grown stuff. I have no interest in jewelry regardless. Just found this subject matter interesting.

LOL @ paying an absurd amount of money for a shiny rock - I wouldn't purchase on based on principle, just as I would not purchase gucci, LV, or the like on principle.

From what I hear people who know what they are doing can differentiate between the two at a glance. Furthermore lab grown don't hold any value at all.

A diamond / piece of jewelry is a status symbol. Buying fake jewelry only indicates a low status.

Yeah I read about the value aspect of it. But at lot of people don't care about buying jewelry as an investment. A lot of people just want to buy diamond jewelry. And with that said, even diamond jewelry depreciate in value as well. I'm figuring most people who don't really have the money is willing to take the hit of their lab grown diamonds when they resell since it didn't exactly break the bank to get in the first place, whereas buying the real thing pose a risk in itself.

As far as being able to tell the difference between the two at a glance, that isn't accurate. What I read is that it does take effort to look for indicators.

Like I said, the rich will still consume natural diamonds. It will be a status symbol type of thing. The less fortunate will consume the lab grown stuff. Too many pros not to. Overall, I couldn't care less about the whole jewelry thing.

No, you can't with just a glance. You must use a microscope (natural diamonds have nitrogen) or with a modern professional diamond detector.
