I think what goes unsaid is that most of those people who are chronically unemployed/underemployed have severe physical or mental deficits. But they won't admit that online.
i.e. they're 350 lbs, or clinically depressed, or drug users, or severely socially deficient or something.
A normal reliable person can pretty easily get a decent job in 2024. Might not be 6 figures but $50k should be achievable for most.

You have to deal with getting screamed at by Karen's, homeless crackhead's covered in feces, getting shot at randomly, they don't let you beat the hell out of people with your mag light like they used to and you have to work holidays.
Its not that great by the looks of it.
Maybe if they still let me beat people with a mag light.

Funny you should say that, OP.
I just saw The Rookie appeared on Netflix and started watching it last night. Had me hooked, great show. Up to Ep 6 of Season 1 now. Whilst the premise and show is good, it has seriously deflected me from my mission to complete Star Trek TNG.
Why the need to be under 35, though? The Rookie was in a similar situation and he was like 45.

I already can carry a taser and gun, don’t want to deal with scum all day and be under scrutiny and get thrown under the jail if I had to take action. No thanks Jeff not in this climate. Maybe if I got a job in some affluent small shore town but that’s like winning the cop lotto.

Lol not all police departments are equal in regards to pay and benefits plus I think sloots and wider society in general have a more negative sentiment toward law enforcement these days.

at the VERY minimum you can join the police force or the us military. after 5 to 8 years you are easily over 100k in pay (if you include housing stipends for the military).
all you need to be is physically fit (anyone can control this if they are motivated), have a clean record (again, anyone can control this), and be willing to work hard.
thats it. no excuse

Because I hate people?
You REALLY have to like people to be a cop. And this is the misc, a forum full of basement dwelling Indians. What could possibly go wrong, amirite?

Had eczema when you were 4? Need a note from your doctor who treated it or you can't enlist (never mind that doc retired 7 years ago)
Ever been diagnosed with a little anxiety/ADHD? GTFO my office
Since pretty much every person, even the perfectly healthy ones, accumulate 5 surgeries/broken bones/allergies/whatever by the time they turn 18 this leads to massive paperwork backlog and they're having a recruiting crisis right now.
It comes from people frauding VA disability. They sign up for 4 years, have their "first" mental breakdown or their "first" seizure and then get paid $3000/mo for the rest of their life.
I do also agree there are a lot of fat kids though.

I was offered a job by state trooper superintendent/supervisor but I had to wait an additional year for something to get off my record…by that time I moved out of the state
He said just meet your quota…unlimited OT, pension, retirement…great benefits

I’ll probably stay in another 10 years and either go work for a UC college as campus security (free tuition for kids) or work in fraud investigations for bank.
