Lifting weights doesn't improve your health

I'm having a hard time believing that somehow bench pressing and curling some dumbbells is making me healthier. I'd actually wager that it's making me less healthy.

I took a few weeks off recently because of injuries and chit. My knees stopped hurting and I felt good overall just kinda bored. And I was drinking too much.

I think "powerlifting" is kinda bad, bad for the joints, high chance of injury, no cardio benefit... The way I'm training now when I'm done I feel like I did a cardio session, higher volume, a lot more reps and sets, and less rest between sets

proper weight training is one of the few things that actually fights the aging process. Try not lifting like a retard...It worked for me.

That's what I'm thinking. How is carrying extra mass even good for you?

lol, bunch of uneducated swine ITT

weight lifting is elite as fuk for cell health, joints, metabolism, etc

thing is, you don't need to do 5-7 days/wk of geeky bodybuilding to reap the benefits. Actually doing this starts to get detrimental, hence why u feel better when rest and let ur body heal

2-4 days, 30-45mins a wk is optimal

is it a good cardio workout? nah unless you're doing circuit training or something

but having lean mass makes it harder to accumulate body fat and lifting weights is good for joints and tendons if done properly

It can potentially improve quality of life. Probably not in most cases from the way I see people lift. It's not gonna make you live longer though.

I agree

I find it to be a good mental stress relief tbh

I love when people say things like "if you lift weights you can eat whatever you want". nah bro your half hour "weightlifting" session where you spent the majority of it on your phone maybe burned 150 cals

It's pretty funny I was thinking about how each set lasts maybe 20-30 seconds and I'll do at most 20 sets. That's like 200 calories burned tops. Why do I need 100g of carbs before a workout lol.

But the additional lean muscle mass will burn calories while you rest.

Until you turn 30 lol

I will always train, even carrying groceries home from the store is harder when I stop training for a long time.

Just googled it and it's shockingly little. 7 cal per lb at the high estimate means 50 lbs of muscle only burns 350 more calories per day.

Which seems super low.
