"The Irishman" movie on Netflix
I feel like a lot of people don't like this movie because it's too slow and there's very little action compared to "Casino" or Wolf of Wall Street" or Goodfellas".
But I really like it. I think the other movies they spend the movie glamorizing their lifestyle. And then in the epilogue they all die/get caught but the message that the lifestyle is self-destructive doesn't really get through.
In The Irishman the downfall is there from the beginning. The gangsters are never glamorized. When a new character shows up, you see in text how they die, often young in violent ways.
I like the themes of guilt/damnation where the gangsters die and the main character is left to die in a nursing home estranged from his family. All the killing and crime and money was for nothing.

Some great memorable scenes but too bloated with filler.

I will add that the de-aging technology, particularly in some of the early scenes, is ridiculous. 75 yr old Robert De Niro playing a 30 yr old was not a good choice.
But I thought having the old actors at the end was good.

I thought it was a masterpiece srs. People claim to dislike it because of DeNiro’s political views or because they have no attention span, but if you actually take the time to watch the film it’s one of the most worthwhile movies I’ve ever seen. So many lessons, Scorsese deliberately made it a brutally honest depiction of that life. No glamorizing, no over the top violence. Just cold hard reality. The religious undertones are another aspect I appreciated. When it’s all said and done, what do you have? If you live in sin, nothing.

That movie sucked. Too boring, too long, barely any story, and that de-aging made was made it go from just a bad movie to an horrible one.

Yeah, it is VERY slow burn and moves at a totally different pace to so many of Scorsese's other movies. Very little action and primarily dialogue scenes. A very far cry from say 'Gangs of New York' which starts with a massive brawl and has regular action/violence throughout.

i watched Michael Franzese's breakdown of this movie on youtube. He said it's all bullsh. He knows a lot of the people in that story, including the fact that Michael was in the restaurant when one of those murders happened. He was actually there.
He says the movie is based on a book that was largely made up.
