Children are among eight people who have been stabbed in a knife attack in Southport. Paramedics are treating eight victims with stab injuries following the incident at Hart Street on Monday. A man has been detained by police and a knife has been seized. The victims have been taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport and Formby hospital.

A spokesman from the North West Ambulance Service said: “We have dispatched 13 ambulances along with specialised resources of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), Air Ambulance and Merit Doctors to the scene.”

Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool says it has declared a major incident, as it urges parents to only bring their children to A&E "if it is urgent". In a statement, the hospital trust says it's "working with other emergency services to respond to this incident" and its emergency department is "extremely busy".

A local business owner, who was one of the people who called the police, has said the incident in Southport was like a "scene in a horror movie". Colin Parry, owner of Masters Vehicle Body Repairs on Hart Street, said several people had been stabbed. He told the PA news agency: "The mothers are coming here now and screaming. It is like a scene from a horror movie." He went on to say "police have got him". "It's like something from America, not like sunny Southport," he added.

China has terrible knife attacks by frenzied individuals who often target innocent children. The good thing is that these loonies are arrested and executed. All the cases of mass child stabbings I have heard about have been in China & that region.

It didn't happen in a hospital, it happened in a street-by a children's centre & most, if not all of the victims seem to be children.

We don't have the death penalty & likely he will be detained at Broadmoor Mental Hospital indefinitely-which is safer for the public than a jail term where he could get out.
