1. Digital Media, you subscribe to Spotify/Netflix to view Songs/Movies but you don’t physically own it.

2. How to’s, a lot of instructional information is accessed online and not in a physical copy anymore. When my father passed away a couple years ago he had tons of how to books ranging around many topics…… now I look up digital info that I don’t own a physical copy of.

There are MANY examples of people buying music to have saved on their hard drives, and then companies CHANGING terms & conditions, and DELETING people's home archives....

I don't mind "not owning" my digital media, there's always a way around it.

I feel like music is a bad example because I'd rather pay Spotify 10 bucks per month for literally unlimited music than 10 dollars for 1 CD from Sam goody that will end up scratched

I think people's grievance with "own nothing and be happy" is more about the prospect of it being coerced upon people. Not having a choice.

Subscription streaming is a free market service that was offered, and people took advantage of. Less required storage space, less commitment (cancel any time vs purchase every album). It's a convenience. It's really no different from renting at Blockbuster Video in the 90s, but in digital form. It's not some nefarious government scheme. And you can still buy copies of movies and music to own in digital format, which you could then transfer to CD if you really wanted to bother.

I'm not saying "own nothing and be happy" DOESNT hint at some potential large scale, government imposed changes. But there are also ways in which these changes will come about naturally in the free market, as a result of genuine consumer preference.

These examples aren't what people were worried about. It was mostly property and a vehicle
