Shiva is a pagan idol and is worshipped by hindus to this day. Europeans stopped with the idol worship a long time ago. That's the only real reason that the statue is there.
In addition to shiva being the 'destroyer of illusions' and CERN also trying to 'destroy the illusion' of physical reality by ripping a hole in the very fabric of space-time.
