I grew up on Batman: TAS.

Great stuff. Female penguin. Every episode is about a strong, humorless, perfect woman that Batman stalks to have them find out the mystery so he can swoop in at the end. Love it.

More seriously: Show is a mixed bag, the woke elements are there. I could barely stomach watching the new penguin, just a terrible gender bent idea but she was also very off putting to watch... which, if it was Clayface and that was the point, okay, but it wasn't. They just did it and it was horrific.

Batman will play second fiddle to whatever the strong empowered capable intelligent brave woman who is suffering ugly stupid men hitting on them, which happens every episode and they shoot them down hard every time. I've seen two episodes and they've done it about 4 times already, some ugly chump awkwardly flirts with some strong empowered woman way more attractive than they are, and the woman sinks them out of the water.

Pretty chitty and honestly depressing -- this is entertainment now. Just expect it. There will never be a woman with any flaws, no ditzy girls, no woman set upon, they're just now a little bit better than the men, who can be dull, slovenly, unaware, creepy and such. Plus, black people everywhere. Some, as in this show, drawn with very European features, but still black skinned. That's not black face, it's Diverse.

So no, it's not the spiritual successor to BtAS. No show in 2024 can be. That is no longer allowed.

Otherwise, it's a take on Batman. He seems more violent, more brooding, less altruistic and I like how Bruce Wayne is the act and Batman is the real person, something they kind of did with BtAS but are leaning into even more heavily here.

I'm halfway thru the first so don't shoot the messenger.. Honestly loved The Brave and the Bold tho

Yeah, dropped it episode 3 (which was probably the best of the ones I saw) but enough is enough. It wasn't making me relive my childhood with BtAS, it was just depressing... and kind of boring.

never heard of it but I figure they'll give it the woke edge that they did with the xmen animated series they redid

The Arkham game series was the spiritual successor to Batman TAS and look at what they did to that. I'm not buying into any of this new **** where they dig up good old **** and then wokeify it to cash in on nostalgia and retroactively ruin stuff that shouldve been left alone.

"Woke edge" is about right. Woke in many unwelcome ways but not entirely, so if anyone complains they'll scream about them being far alt-right Nazis and chit, which if they'd gone full-Woke and made Bruce's parents killed by Trumpers and the Joker looking like Trump in clown makeup, turned Batman gay and had the season's major plot been a love triangle between Batman, Alfred and Robin, etc, etc... if they'd done that, when people complained, it'd just have fizzled away like He-Man or countless other woke turds.
