Feels pretty smug having the most run down house in the neighborhood.

lol @ all these nerds around me buying these houses and dumping a bunch of money into fixing them up raising my property value without me lifting a finger. Meanwhile I do the bare minimum for my house.

there's some saying about it being better to have the worst house in the best neighborhood (you can afford) than to have the best house in the worse neighborhood.

i think your approach is wise...you get to be comfortable in your house that isn't "perfect" while the others spend money and raise your value. if you aren't overly concerned about the appearance why spend money remodeling....in 10-15 years whatever you did will likely be outdated/worn out anyway. just keep the grass cut and chill.
