That's the rumour, because the original lineup, which lasted until like 1980, could not play the songs in concert even close to how the studio albums sounded, at least with the drumming and lead guitar. It was definitely Gene and Paul singing the whole time, though

As KISS progressed through the years they got better musicians who could play in the group, and weren't faking
