Would you live in one of these raised houses in a Florida flood zone?

This is how this house in coastal Florida looked 3 months ago:





And this is how that same house looks now after they jacked up the foundation and put it on supports to prevent it from flooding during a hurricane:




Would you feel safe/comfortable living in a house like this?

They get under the foundation and use hydraulic lifts to jack it up, then install the support beams. Here's a quick timelapse:

Home and car insurance is too much of a pain in the ass to live in FL now.

Seems like a lot of people halted building there houses and went somewhere else.

People are going to have a heard time giving away their condos/houses.

I think Florida has the ugliest housing stock in the entire country srs.

Basically all houses close to the beach in tourist areas are like that here in NC.

That prize belongs to the Northeast US and much of the rest of the Rust Belt. No contest. Partly because nothing new gets built. Crap weather adds to the drab.

Damn couldn’t disagree more. Old housing was built better and with character. Pre-1970s builds were far superior quality for a variety of reasons, most notably the use of strong aged lumber versus the flimsy mass produced timber used today.

Northeast neighborhoods also feel more cohesive, established and authentic. None of that sterile gated community cul-de-sac bullchit they love down south.

I’d rather live in a 100 year old home like this on a walkable tree lined street:



Then some ugly modern house like this on the edge of an isolated suburban cesspool under HOA rule.



That chit feels dystopian to me, but I realize I’m in the vast minority.
