Torn meniscus CREW.

I've had a subtle issue with my right knee after smashing it very badly 3 years ago (mountain biking accident)

About 2 weeks ago it suddenly became a lot worse, where I actually notice it all the time. I can't bend my knee more than 90 degrees without obvious discomfort.

There has even been some recent swelling in that knee.

The knee feels like loose rattling shocks on a car while walking. There's some popping, catching, etc.

Any of you gotten the surgery for this and it was successful?

I'm reading a lot of vastly different experiences from people online.

Yes I had a torn Meniscus thirty plus years ago. It was never 100% but it was about 90%. I have been able to run, hike, rock climb, ski, scuba, etc. Personally thought the surgery was a success.

I have developed problems again recently this year and the xray showed missing cartilage in that section of the knee. Still not enough of a problem for me to get more surgery.

You can walk after a few weeks. Probably got to 85-90% after a year with some physical therapy. That was 30 years ago, so things are probably better now.

it's a bummer but I had friends have worse problems.

Damn brah sorry to hear

At least this is a somewhat common and easy thing to fix

I know one other oldschool miscer that got the surgery and was back to squatting pretty fast

My Pops got it too and was fine

What grade tear is it? If its 3+ get the surgery

I dislocated my kneecap, tore MCL and another ligament so i got surgery plus had cartilage removed and I'm back to repping 315 on squats

Make sure your surgeon knows you live an active lifestyle and want to be able to squat again

Of all knee ligaments, you tore the right one. Sorry for the incoming few months of hassle but you should make a full recovery.

Good replies ITT.

I'll have to get it confirmed via some kind of scan, but it's pretty obvious to me what it is.

Id say my pain level is about a 2/10, but also, the perceived stability of that knee is about 2/10, so it just feels sketchy as fuk.

I'm elevating it now to help the swelling.

Glad to know this operation is very minor.

Quick and easy surgery. You'll have a 100% easy recovery as long as you do the rehab

I tore my acl and meniscus 17 years ago. I think the surgeon said he stitched up the meniscus and didn't remove any of it. Feels fine now.

What I'm reading is that NOT removing any meniscus is the key to long-term success.

If they remove part of it, the knee will develope arthritis due to the lack of meniscus.

If the surgeon says they're taking it out, I'll walk outta there.

If they will stitch it back together, I'm game.

I got lucky then because I remember he initially said I didn't tear the meniscus but after the acl surgery said he noticed a tear and fixed it up.

Holy chit, just did this technique and it has helped a fuk ton.

I won't know for sure if it works until I do a ride with it, but just walking around the house my knee feels way more stable.

Maybe it was just a misaligned knee?

Been waiting it out for this knee injury to see how it progresses .....

Today was the first day it had zero pain, zero tweaks, zero catches.

The swelling also went down.

Maybe it's a coincidence, but yesterday I started doing hip bridges on the floor (no weight, just my bodyweight) and it seemingly corrected the issue overnight.

I figured it was some kind of muscle imbalance that spurred the issue because I haven't had any recent crashes to cause such a serious issue.

Still some slight puffiness on the right knee, but I think I might be out of the woods on this.

I fully expect this to keep being a sporadic issue into my future, and will likely get it fixed if it continues being a pain in my ass.

I tripped over a door and landed hard on my knee while fckin wasted 2 years ago, it swelled up huge as fck for like 10 days, was limping for several weeks, had a hard time fcking doggy style for 6 months, after about a 1 year it was pretty much back to normal. I still feel it if I climb (scared of heights, think its adrenaline transferring weight from legs to knees) or after a plane ride where I don't get up while my other knee is completely fine

Am i fcked opie? Torn meniscus?

I tore mine, not sure how exactly severe it was but walking and running sucked for me, but oddly enough I could lift. I had it cleaned up, took forever to feel any sort of relief. But that was only after one of my friends recommended doing backward step ups to strengthen the area of the quad around the knee. AND type 2 collagen. Eat it like candy. It has to be type 2. I wish I would've at least tried those exercises and collagen before deciding to have it scoped.

My story is about he same. Slammed my knee mountain biking a few years ago. Swelled like hell, had X-rays and a doctor test out range of motion, and he said I had no apparent tendon tears. It healed after like 3 months, and was fine

Then now it just started hurting for no obvious reason. I think the meniscus is wearing down from the initial impact it had years ago.

Doing hip thrusters, and the self-rendered knee adjustment I posted above is helping immensely.

Trying to avoid surgery because I can get on with life just fine as it is, commiting to surgery would be a roll of the dice.

No ATG squats for me tho. I can bike like crazy still so I'm happy AF

that must be hard on your wrists in doggy style if you can’t put much weight on that knee
