Anyone driven a semi before?

I go thru Youtube video fads and my current one is vids of people getting old semis running and driving them. Those old Peterbilt turbo diesels sound fookin beastly especially with straight through pipes hitting the jakebrake srs. Anyone driven one? Bet they make you feel like a real road MOGGER and if someone brake checks you you can just plow into them and carry on going thanks to all that low down torque. Would love to SMASH the back end of some little twink EV in my crusty old SEMI

I had the fantasy over the years of dumping my career and becoming a long distance trucker.

It seems like a potentially fun life.

On the flip side, my friend used to date one and she said he practically goes crazy from solitude.

Drove a cement truck a few times which is basically a semi . It had a 13 speed ,and for the life of me I can’t remember how you end up with 13 speeds again.
I do remember it was weird AF because 2nd and 4th I think it was were at the top , and I’m used to 2nd and 4th being at the bottom.

It was intimidating at first ,but once you get used to the size it feels pretty normal.
My worst problem is I drive too far to the right when I’m in a bigger truck .
When working out of a bucket truck I really prefer an F550 , nothing larger .

Never thought about that aspect. I figured you'd just meet people along the way at diners, truck stops, drop off points etc. Probably quite high risk of having your trailer robbed by criminals out in the sticks too though. But I'm sure you'd have so many stories to tell after a long career

I went to a driving school for big rigs back in 2007. It's really neat to drive something that big but the degenerate trash that industry attracts turned me off of it.

Also that job would get old fast. At my work we deal regularly with long haul truckers who deliver equipment from all over the US, and they are all weird AF. So much time spent in isolation with nothing but your thoughts

I semi know the guy and he's a very humous Philly type of guy. So, he's used to being around all of these characters. However, he grew up in a super high crime area and probably wanted a good job where he could call the shots, but then ended up alone most of the time.

He's also the type who attracts pretty girls easily but had can't really have a gf because he's an national trucker is not in one spot too long.

So, the isolation factor probably affects certain types of people over others.

I could do it if truck stops had good gyms and I would take my gf.

Interestingly, you need to double-clutch in semi, while double-clutching hasn't been necessary in cars since the 40s...

Used to be the cable guy . I actually really used to enjoy doing aerial work in a bucket .
This is during work doing cut in on a golf course . Loved the views

I've maybe encountered 3 truckers in a lifetime who didn't move over when I was joining a highway. You sound like you worry too much srs. The isolation would suck but is it much worse than an officecel who doesn'treallycommunicate with anyone on a meaningful level all day?

If you're thinking about getting into it as a profession, then isolation should be your biggest fear.

Isolation and it's toll on a man's mental health should not be underestimated.


It's true that being a cubiclecuck can wreck a man's mental health, but at least there's people in the office and you have some degree of human interaction.


But long-haul truckers have very little human interaction with people unless they're in the trucking business or a trucking-support business like gas stations and mechanics.
