Should I hire a live-in Russian nanny/au pair for the boys
Basically, if either me or the wife or both go back to work at some point we’ll lose the free childcare which for 2 kids is around $100,000
Instead of paying $100,000 per year for 2 kids I could hire an early 20’s Russian girl to look after the kids
If we provide accomodation and food then the actual cash salary would be around $50,000
Some of them apparently do light housekeeping but we have cleaners and meal delivery service so whatever
Pros:
-mum would have another person to talk to when she’s here
-live in help/babysitter
-we have a massive house anyway so losing 1 brm/1 bath is nbd
-kids can get more consistent exposure to Russian language
-don’t have to walk kids to daycare or worry about them picking up random viruses
Cons:

If neither parent is working, why not raise the kids yourself instead of hiring someone else?

The above scenario is based on us going back to work and hence losing free daycare

Can you keep yourself from fuking her?
You might want to hire a 55 year old ugly lady instead.

So on a $100,000 childcare bill I might pay $10k or less which is basically free

I personally wouldn't do it, as I don't want live in staff; the idea makes me uncomfortable (it took me a while to get used to a cleaner doing mommy shifts). I don't see any problem with people doing it, but it wouldn't work for me.
We chose to each WFH 2-3 days a week. Rather than have fixed days, we look at who needs to be where and arrange our diaries so that one of us is at home.
You only get half of your work done and then have to do the other half when the other one comes home, of after the munchkin has gone to bed, but it works for us.

We would interview to find someone that is a good fit and the boys get along with
Some families take the nanny on holiday with them

And when you inevitably knock up that nanny, you need to hire another nanny and on and on it goes. Pretty soon you’re 13 kids and 5 nannies deep

How are both of you not working? Parents taking care of you all? Anyways i was going to ask why a Russian and not a Latina.. but i saw Russian is the only non-asian option you guys basically have in Aussie land. And your Abo wife probably wouldn't want a prime young latina in her 20s walking around the house.

We considered it a couple of years ago. Life would've been less hectic and the price was very reasonable, but we never got past the talking stage. We should have.
