Torn meniscus surgery

I've had minor pain and discomfort in my knee turns out to be a small tear in my meniscus and my doctor recommended surgery. Anyone had experience with this and bodybuilding? How long before being able to do leg workouts again? And shall I just do upper body if I decide to do it?

What kind of tear do you have? I had a small root tear and surgery to repair it last Nov was a total failure and nightmare. I wish they had just cleaned it up in the first place. I spent 3 months in horrendous pain, I also reacted to the anchor they put in my tibia so when they went in to clean up the failed repair in Feb this year, they had to remove that which they normally wouldn't do.

It depends on your age and expected level of use in the future.

They can do a half fix that works for most people and heals within a couple months. Or there’s a more serious repair that will get it back to perfect but takes like 6-9 months to recover.

I believe it just strengthens the tendons and muscles that never get traditionally worked

Yeah. I couldn't even squat due to my torn menicus. Now I can squat without knee sleeves ATG with zero issues. Never got surgery

True actually I can't think of any other way of strengthening the muscles and tendons that straighten the knee.

UPDATE: I did, and I must say I'm dumbfounded. The pain was reduced 95% immediately and I even proceeded to do my leg workout with very minimal pain as well. I barely felt anything doing my squats or leg presses. I've been doing it regularly since then.

I am not sure what kind of tear it is. I am supposed to see a knee specialist sometime who will hopefully answer my questions and I will make a decision accordingly. So far, the pain is gone with the reverse treadmill exercise!

I see. That recovery time sounds like a nightmare, I have an active job and gym lifestyle
