Sometimes when you look at who is married, it's not even a surprise that so many people get divorced.

I'm at that age where most people are getting married and I'm single as ever - and the amount of people who are complete idiots, yet are getting married, is astronomical.

Like you know someone with a serious attitude problem, and you wonder, "who would EVER put up with this person for any extended period of time"? Yeah, THAT sort of thing.

Marriage is something that takes patience and compromise - so how can someone who thinks that they're 'the celebrity in the relationship' stay married to another person? Answer is that they can't - so they get divorced.

I'm surprised that the divorce rate isn't higher, considering the absolute amount of idiots out there - not even in the intellectual space, but in emotional space (i.e., people with control issues).

Well yeah, but I'm still surprised that it's not higher. Most people are absolute idiots who think the world revolves around them. Not even in a fully concious state, just subconsciously. The typical person (not even NPD) will be your friend until you get something good or THEY lose face in some way, and then you become their enemy. How can the closest person to them do any better if they hate people who are not even that close to them emotionally?

Look at how someone treats their enemy and you'll see how they treat you at some point.

If I remember correctly first time marriages are like 30% or so. And with each divorce you are statistically more likely to divorce again.



I do know a few guys on their third wife that are quite happy. And I think things will work out for them now that they are older though.

You also didn't take into account miserable people sticking together just because of kids, fear of divorce, and finances. If you did, it'd be 75%
