An origin assumes a beginning and is an assumption one should avoid in these discussions. We will need to abandon much of our daily experiences when trying to explain cosmic and quantum events - and the big bang combines both.

We know through empirical evidence that the universe was much, much smaller a long time ago. In fact, it was likely subatomic. At these dimensions quantum effects would make ”time” a fuzzy concept. In fact we do not have to go subatomic before we have a hard time telling the time.
