Why do we constantly save the lives of drug addicts who OD?
In my city (like a lot of others) there's a serious drug issue, and a lot of social justice warriors who screech about harm reduction.
Just this morning, a newspaper article got posted about one 24/7 harm reduction facility saying how they saved the lives of 1500 people from ODs last year, some people more than once. The comments are all about how heroic they are and how insane the things they see every day are, and it's devastating to see such people in pain, etc.
My take is the opposite. I see these people having zero benefit to society and are only a major drain on services, usually commit crimes constantly and are completely beyond being saved, especially the ones who are offered help and refuse it in order to stay on the streets and do drugs. So if it were me and I saw a person on the street who had OD'd, I would take no steps to save them and let them just die.
Maybe that makes me a heartless psychopath, but I'm wondering what the logic is behind bringing these people back to life so they can continue their addiction and suffering? Maybe one out of a thousand will wake up enough to get sober. Is that really enough to warrant all this money spent on services?

I’d rather they let them die tbh . Just a burden on society anyways , and nothing of any value would be lost

Because most drug addicts can be rehabilitated into people willing to work for $14 per hour with terrible quality of life in a factory somewhere.

Because people who are in the medical field have a responsibility to save other people's lives? Not everyone in society is a cold hearted psychopath like you and other miscers OP.

It's like the US took the worst of two systems
In other countries they don't "criminalize" drug use, but they don't tolerate it either. They force you to get treatment against your will. We do the first part but not the second part
We should save them from OD, but they should go to a mandatory work camp or something for a few months to get clean so they have a true second chance, and to pay their debt to society off. It seems the most conpassiate and fair way to do it

The governmet doesn't want its potential workers dying from OD's whether accidental or intentional. Thats why its illegal to s*icide, because you're voluntarily taking a worker away from the government.
