Car insurance prices expected to surge, over 50% increase in three states

The three states where insurance rates could jump by more than 50% this year are California, Minnesota and Missouri, the Insurify report found. Drivers in those states could see their rates rise by 54%, 61% and 55%, respectively.

First, the costs paid by insurance providers to repair vehicles after an accident, such as for labor and parts, have increased more than 40%, and insurers are passing those increases onto drivers. Secondly, because lawyers are more often involved in handling accident claims than in prior years, settlements are increasing, which also boosts insurance costs.

Car insurance is a scam. Always has been and always will be.

Most states require it by law, and you pay more if you actually have to use it. Thats how you know its a scam.

Makes no sense.

One thing I have heard a lot more of is people will make the payment to start an insurance policy, get their ID cards, then immediately cancel their policy to get their money back and then just keep the ID card in their car in case they get pulled over. Repeat the process when the expiration date on their card comes up.

I just received my renewal, and Insurance went from $600 to $950 every 6 months. I did get a speeding ticket back in January which sucks and adds to it. But still I'd imagine the actual insurance is up like $600/yr over 2022 levels.

It's a necessary evil. As with most forms of Insurance, it's a scam for people who never use it. But Insurance is a way to keep poor people engaged in society.

I can't imagine having like $300 in your savings account and getting in a car accident. Would probably not be ideal, but would force people to be more resourceful.

This doesnt work. The DMV gets notified of lack of insurance on file after about 60 days of not having an active insurance on file. Your license gets suspended for this now. Trust me I've dealt with that a lot as a cop.

I guess you could play dumb and be like "I have no idea why it got cancelled!" In court if the officer was a dick and gave you a NTA (non-physical arrest - notice to appear) and had your vehicle impounded.

I never did that chit as a cop because I know insurance is a scam.

Once you pay the value off of the car in car insurance, it should drop down to practically nothing besides medical coverage

I hit a certain year with my insurance and got a discount but it was quickly gone by time renewal came and my insurance was higher. Thanks to all the driving illegals NY is letting roam around

Never received 1 ticket on my motorcycle, no speeding tickets, no accidents, nothing. The bike sits 8 months out of the year and they increased insurance on it by 40%

Strong scam

my insurance doubled 3 months ago when they decided to no longer operate in california and i got tons of quotes. That was the last straw after owning 3 cars for about 10 years, went down to just 1 and sold 2 of them. I can only drive 1 of these dam cars at a time, yet they bill you as if all 3 have an equal chance of incident. 28 years of driving, never had a single claim with insurance.

Well that's the whole point. Sow disorder by constantly penalizing the ones who follow the rules. Then on the flip side, cities refusing to share crime rates and giving criminals, rapists, and murderers milder sentences than people deemed as "thought criminals."

Commies gonna commie.

I can imagine with auto theft rates up in blue run cities and states since the property crime of stealing cars is all to often not punished, contributes to higher insurance costs.

Biden/Harris's EV mandate requiring that EVs be purchased a few years from now is also likely behind the higher auto insurance rate prices.

Americans should have a choice of what they can buy, expensive EVs or less pricy more reliable gas powered cars.

Dealerships Are Getting Excited About How Quickly Electric Vehicles Break Down

https://dailycaller.com/2024/07/12/d...es-break-down/

Car dealerships could win big in the Biden administration’s push for electric vehicles (EV) due to their greater need for repairs and short lifespans, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

EVs spend much less time on the road before being replaced compared to gas vehicles due to battery degradation, insurers often preferring to replace EVs rather than repair them and rapid technological advancement, according to the WSJ. More frequent car replacements and higher repairs as more EVs hit the road could mean more sales for car dealerships.....

It makes sense. You pay into a collective, and the average new vehicle is what? 50-60k?

Cars and gas and insurance cant remain cheap forever with a growing population or it's just gonna be more gridlock and emissions and parking lots paved over parks. Theres a practical limit to how many people you can have out there driving.

Obviously the elites are pushing toward cars being mainly for the well off.

one day it will no longer be a flex to drive an expensive electric car. It will be a flex for the wealthy to be driving a gas powered car.

One reason it's gone up is the rise in theft but instead of throwing it all on the make/models as well as the area that most of this theft is happening, they spread it out.

Fact is that if they did it based on the car, nobody could afford to insure a Charger/Challenger (esp hellcats, scatpacks, RT, ect) or a lot of KIA/Hyundia vehicles due to the astronaut-ical amount of theft that goes on with those. Also the insane amount of money it cost to repair EV's. I think it should be based on the car. Stop spreading out cost so it can be affordable to certain people.

The US is well on its way to becoming Brazil.

Basic chit that used to be affordable by the vast majority of people will now only be for the top 20%

Nope. No tickets on my record. Had one deferred more than 10 years ago. I've been with Progressive for long time so maybe I earned some kind of discount. Pretty rare for them to voluntarily reduce my rate though. I don't think it's happened before other than Covid for a year.
